Living History, Tia Norfleet

Tia Norfleet is currently making black history. She is the first and only African-American female Nascar driver and she’ll be speaking at Decatur on Feb. 29.

Norfleet is a native of Suffolk, Virginia, but now lives in Augusta, where racing has become a major part of her life. Introduced to the sport of professional racing at a young age by her father, Bobby Norfleet, she knew she wanted to be in the racing profession when she was 14.

According to her website, “Tia’s goal is to teach young people — especially females — that it can be done, and “it” is not solely limited to racing either.” Her motto, “Get right or get left,” is a daily motto, not merely a clever tagline.

Tia Norfleet will be speaking on Feb 29. From 2-3pm. A meet and greet with her will be held before the event at 1:30pm in SF 2100.
